JANUARY 2008: STYLE TREND FEATURES High-waisted trousers and White Shirts

Due to the lack of style articles in this months magazines there is not much I can summarise. Instead I have focused on the ‘Whats new for 2008’ articles. To see this summary take a look at the Features category on the home page. Roll on the February issues that promise to be full of the new collections. I can hardly wait!

 1. High trousers (Vogue)

2. The white shirt (InStyle)

1. High Trousers (Vogue, January 2008)

vogueshops focuses on the trend that is high waisted trousers, a nice alternative to the the ultra-low raise styles that have been around in recent years, this trend is considered to be extremely flattering with an ability to lengthen the shortest of legs.

Tips:

“They … look chicer and more polished than … regular jeans” Amanda Ross, fashion consultant

“Its a simple way to update your look” Amanda Ross, fashion consultant

“They have a relaxed feel, but the high waist and chic flare of this style makes them smart enough to wear to work” Kate Nobelius, co-founder of Billion Dollar Babes

2. The white shirt, (InStyle, January 2008)

A white shirt is a staple in any girl or womans wardrobe, from my 12 year old sister to my mother, we all wear them. Try not to think of school uniform but Angelina Jolie in Mr&Mrs Smith, Marilyn Monroe and Jane Birkin. Experiment with styles from masucline to classic to feminine to statement shirts. Team with jeans, skirts, waistcoats, or just a belt to create an outfit for every occasion.

Where to buy: My mother recently received the most gorgeous white shirt from Armani. MaxMara and Ralph Lauren also have great white shirts. For smaller budgets try Gap, Zara, Massimo Dutti and Topshop

InStyle’s words of advice:

1. Decide what you want it for

2. Choose the right fabric

3. For looser styles, opt for cotton

4. Invest in quality for comfort

5. Check collars and cuffs of masculine styles are double lined

6. All shades of white are not equal

7. Look for reinforced stiching

8. Plastic or polyester buttons are more durable and scratch less than the more traditional mother of pearl buttons
